The Biochemical Demands of Avian Moulting

Feathers represent roughly 10% of a bird's total body weight and consist of 90% keratin protein rich in disulfide bonds. During annual moult, a bird's protein and metabolic requirements spike dramatically. Inadequate sulfur amino acids lead to pinched feather shafts, stress lines, and prolonged, painful moults.

MSM & Biotin for Keratin Matrix Strength

MSM is included as a source of dietary sulfur and biotin as a B-vitamin involved in keratin formation. The disulfide bonds in feather keratin come mainly from the sulfur amino acids methionine and cysteine in the diet. Persistent itching or flaky skin should be checked by an avian vet.

Spirulina Carotenoids & Vibrant Coloration

Organic spirulina supplies natural carotenoids and other nutrients. Note that the red and yellow colours of parrot feathers come from psittacofulvins that parrots produce themselves, not from dietary pigments, so feather colour mainly reflects overall health and nutrition. An unexpected colour change (for example yellow or black feathers on a green bird) can signal liver disease or malnutrition and needs a vet check.

Feather Plucking: See a Vet First

While feather picking has complex behavioral components, underlying skin dryness and follicle inflammation exacerbate the urge to pluck. Feather Glow is a nutritional supplement, not a treatment for plucking. Feather picking has many medical causes (infection, parasites, liver disease, heavy-metal toxicosis, pain), so have your bird examined by an avian vet before assuming the cause is nutritional or behavioural.
